Gold Rush History
Imagine traveling to Alaska as a hopeful prospector in the late 1800s or early 1900s, approaching Skagway and seeing the formidable wilderness stretching off toward the legendary Klondike Gold Fields. Once a rough-and-tumble staging area for mobs of frontiersmen hoping to hit pay dirt, Skagway boasts an abundance of historic sites from the Gold Rush era. From a depot right next to the cruise docks, the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad still carries adventure seekers into the untamed Yukon Territory, and much of the downtown area is preserved as part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
