Glenwood Wave, Glenwood Springs

Beyond the expectations of most, there’s actually some really good surfing in Colorado. Specifically, in Glenwood Springs on the west side of the state right on the Colorado River itself. In fact, it’s the first man made wave feature built on the Colorado River. It was designed by Jason Carey and is just upstream of the Midland Avenue Bridge. It features a hole in river left and a small standing wave river right. In high water level conditions (10,000 – 15,000 cu ft / second, aka CFS), the two features blend into one wide surfable river wave—a continuous wave. No need to sit around and wait for the next swell, or to bail before crashing into the beach, it’s always going.
