Despite what you might assume, there’s actually some decent surfing in Colorado. Specifically, in Glenwood Springs right on the Colorado River itself. In fact, it’s the first man-made wave feature built on the Colorado River. It was designed by Jason Carey and is just upstream of the Midland Avenue Bridge. It features a hole in river left and a small standing wave river right; when the water levels start rising, the two features blend, and when it’s high enough it becomes one wide, continuous surfable standing wave. No need to sit around and wait for the next swell, or to bail before crashing into the beach.
