Local celebrity Gina Machorro will take you on a walking tour through Puerto to learn about the local history, the indigenous Mixteca culture, the black-African roots of Puerto, economic background, fishing, religion, agriculture, culture, daily-life, and even surfing in Puerto. Let her know if you’re more interested in a specific aspect of the region, and she’ll customize the experience (personally, I lit up when she mentioned the local flavors and market, so we spent a bit more time there). The tour took us to the fishing beach, chocolate and adobo grinders, the home of a sweet woman named Ines Ramires making tamales and mole, and the indigenous food and crafts market. PLUS, the tour included a tasty local breakfast of sauteed cacti and beans. Gina is warm and welcoming, will introduce you to anyone you’d like to get to know, and provides “behind-the-scenes” access to the local culture you might not be able to see otherwise. A highly-recommended experience! The tour costs $300MP per person (approximately $20 USD), including breakfast.
