After visiting Spectacle Island, travel on the next ferry to Georges Island. Civil War-era Fort Warren is the main feature to explore on this island. This is the kind of place ghost stories and legends are made of. It's especially eerie on foggy, overcast days. As you walk the inside perimeter of the fort, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time to Revolutionary War era. Rusty doors with peeling paint lead to an inner courtyard. Thin slivers of light shone in the gaps between stones just wide enough to fit a musket through. It was spooky but so enjoyable to have the freedom to wander around, even in the dark.
