It seems like a miracle that anything in Venice, especially accommodation, could be affordable. But now that the 36-room Generator Hostel opened on Venice's Guidecca Island, day trippers and the budget-minded can finally afford to drop anchor in Venice and explore this amazing city without breaking the bank.
Generator's Venice outpost isn't your average hostel experience. There are no dingy communal kitchens and all of the bathrooms and showers are en suite. The lobby is a wide open bar/lounge and dinning space, where guests can sip on negroni's or play pool and later in the evening, party on the water front or at the bar, where DJs pop in regularly.
From a design perspective, it might be the chicest hostel in all of Italy. The original timber and marble bones of the building have been expertly restored, and beautiful new tile work and furnishings dress up the public spaces so that it feels more like a stay at a four star hotel than a down at knees student hostel.
