In an intimate French-Creole building, John Besh's August pairs impeccable service with French-influenced fare sourced locally. Kelly Fields is the restaurant's pastry chef and her confectionary concoctions alone make this the reservation to book. Newcomer Restaurant R'evolution, a joint endeavor between native son John Folse and Chicago's Rick Tramonto, has garnered significant buzz for its nouveau Creole cuisine, polished good looks, and impressive wine list. Head Uptown for less touristy options, like the cozy La Crêpe Nanou, where you should order the moules frites. Nearby, Gautreau's is a quiet, dimly lit spot that oozes romance. Even better, it's still somewhat off the radar thanks to its location on a residential side street. Lilette is a Magazine Street staple for French- and Italian-inspired plates in a sleek setting—and chef-owner John Harris recently opened a next-door bar, Bouligny Tavern, where you can start the night with duck confit and bubbles.
