Gap Filler
Scattered around New Zealand's second-biggest city are creative reminders of how the residents of Christchurch have been resilient and innovative following the powerful earthquakes that rocked the city in 2010 and 2011. Many quake-damaged buildings needed to be demolished, and one-off projects and art installations have popped up to "fill the gaps" that were left behind. Interesting examples of the city's urban regeneration include a community library in an abandoned refrigerator; a coin-operated Dance-O-Mat dance floor, where you can hook up your own music for 30 minutes; and a bicycle-powered outdoor cinema.
