I was volunteering with Manav Sadhna, an NGO based out of the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. My new friend, Raghubhai, started a project where he delivers tiffins (lunch boxes) twice a day to 15 elderly people in the slum villages. These people live alone and have health problems which prevent them from working. Some of them were only eating chili's and water before Raghubhai found them.
I'm pretty sure Raghubhai is an angel. He had polio as a child and has no use of his legs. Even though he now walks with his hands, he started this tiffin delivery service peddling to each person, twice a day through the small streets in the slums. He makes sure that each person is fed before he eats himself.
As a volunteer, you can ride with him and help him deliver tiffins. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip.
