Set on the waterfront next to the remnants of the city’s ancient walls beside the Spanish Arch, the absorbing Galway City Museum chronicles the region’s rich cultural and historical legacy. Exhibits span from prehistoric times to the present. Among the museum’s holdings are a 3,500-year-old ax and a full-size traditional sailing boat called a Galway hooker. A calendar of craft demonstrations and other special events rounds out offerings here.
