Eat Oysters in Galway city
Some of the world’s best oysters grow in beds along the shoreline in the West of Ireland, so Galway is the place to be if you’re a fan of these exclusive salt-water mollusks. You’ll find them on many menus – oyster specialists like Morans Oyster Cottage, which dates back 250 years, serves them natural or grilled with garlic breadcrumbs, or try them on a shellfish platter at McDonaghs on Quay Street. Oyster season starts in September which is when the Galway International Oyster Festival [www.galwayoysterfestival.com] takes over the city for a few days, with fun events to watch such as the World Oyster Opening Championship and pop-up oyster bars. Oyster season runs until April.
