The incredible little town of Füssen in Bavaria has to be one of the best kept secrets in Europe. However, it is mostly ignored by visitors to this Alpine region because of its more-famous neighbor: King Ludwig's Neuschwanstein castle. That's a pity. A romantic, laid-back hamlet at the foot of the Alps, Füssen by itself is worth a full-day trip if you are short of time; but if you are a writer or an artist, you should seriously think about spending lots more time there. This is life in the slow lane, with a scenery that will take your breath away.
