Savor the Creole Tomato Festival at the French Market
You can’t throw a rock without hitting a restaurant touting creole tomato dishes during June, the peak harvest season. Still, the best place to celebrate this crop in its many forms is during the Creole Tomato Festival, a three-decade tradition that takes over the French Market June 10-11, 2017. New Orleanians have been “makin’ groceries” (to use a local term) at this open-air market since 1791. You can expect fried green tomatoes and creole tomato Bloody Marys as well as live music and delicious cooking demonstrations with local chefs.
