La Fête du Raisin
Harvest time and the living is easy in Fréjus at the annual Festival du Raisin. Held by La Miougrano, a group dedicated to maintaining Provençal customs, the grape festival is an excuse to dress up in traditional costumes, do a bit of folk dancing and taste some wine. Local vintages are available for purchase by the glass throughout the weekend as blessings are offered, choirs sing and music is played. Sunday begins with a parade, then a raisin mass in song. The afternoon ends with more dance and mock military battles. All of this being a dress rehearsal for the town’s Bravades exercises held the last weekend of April.
