Freedom Lodge is near the lake, but just up the street and away from the loud road. Beware: at the train station, there are many tuk-tuks willing to take you to a hotel or guesthouse that is (too) close to the action downtown, but Freedom Lodge is where you want to be while in Kandy.
The hosts are friendly and speak English fluently. A super clean property and secure building on a quite street, all rooms have a private bath, fan, desk, and mosquito netting (if needed). There is a nice book exchange and two large gardens for lounging around.
Breakfast is a lighter-fare, more western type of fresh fruits, toasts, fried eggs and a mound of curds and honey! I can’t forget to mention that here is where I finally drank wonderfully brewed coffee! Ah, it was so nice and strong that I helped myself to a healthy warmup and a full second cup!
A family-style Sri Lankan dinner can be arranged, just ask upon arrival.
3000rps per night includes breakfast. See the reviews on the link below.
