Taking in the Sights and Sounds in Four Freedoms Park
This four-acre memorial is dedicated to Franklin D. Roosevelt and celebrates the Four Freedoms outlined in his State of the Union address in 1941. Located right on Roosevelt Island, you'll get a great view of Manhattan from just across the water.
For an immersive experience, the park offers additional content like 52 downloadable chapters that highlight different topics relating to President Roosevelt, archival photographs, audio and video footage and newspaper clippings along with along with other media.
The park is special for a few reasons. Firstly, it's the last work of late iconic architect, Louis I. Kahn. It's also the first memorial dedicated to a former president in his home state (that being New York). This park is solely for walking, so leave your bikes and skateboards at your hotel. Admission is free.
