A 19-kilometer (12-mile) boat trip south of Seward allows visitors to watch for whales and puffins before arriving at the beauty of Resurrection Bay. This mountain-rimmed inlet—draped in hanging glaciers—may be familiar from the opening scene of the 1990 classic thriller The Hunt For Red October. After a ranger presentation, the day lodge offers an all-you-can-eat buffet that features prime rib and grilled Alaskan salmon (vegetarian entrées available on request). Add a half pound of king crab to your meal for $16.
