As names go, Forte das Cinco Pontas is as descriptive as it gets: The Fort of Five Points is just that, a massive pentagonal bulwark, with four bastions, built by the Dutch in 1630. Today, the fort hosts the City Museum, with exhibits on Recife’s urban development. Among many other forts that guard the city waterways, the 1690 Fort Brum at the tip of Old Recife island has a military museum with cannons and weapons.
