Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island provides a lovely NYC "staycation" option, complete with a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline. Staten Island just may be the most underrated of the five boroughs, but Fort Wadsworth and the Arthur Von Briesen Park in which it is located are perfect to bike through, sit and relax in and enjoy a nice picnic while peering out on the Hudson. The National Park Service claims "Fort Wadsworth is one of the oldest military installations in the nation." But like a lot of sites that are no longer used for their intended purpose, it is now just a lovely place full of history and a little romance waiting to be discovered. Taking the Staten Island ferry to get here offers an extra bonus in the adventure department (and it's free!).
