Every Wednesday evening from May through August, head to Fort Myer to see the U.S. Army's Twilight Tattoo pageant. Participating soldiers hail from the 3rd Infantry Regiment (the Old Guard) and the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own." The Army's history is showcased through dazzling performances by the U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from the U.S. Army Downrange, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps in Revolutionary War-era attire, and the U.S. Army Drill Team, which specialize in rifle-bayonet spins and tosses.
Twilight Tattoo is free and open to the public. Performances are from 7 to 8 p.m. Bleachers fill up fast, but you can also sit on the grass. Feel free to bring a picnic and lawn chairs. Stick around after the show for pictures with the soldiers.
