Civil War Ruins at Fort Foote Park
For a solitary walk through history overlooking the Potomac River, stroll the two-mile trail around Fort Foote Park. Originally fortified to defend D.C. during the Civil War, it is now a National Park site, with woodlands to explore and ruins to discover. Two 15-inch Rodman cannons were the largest to defend D.C. and have been preserved, along with cannon emplacements and bunkers.
