This chain of restaurants began with a lone hawker stall and a dream. They serve a variety of Chinese dishes (along with a couple that are claimed to be Indonesian) but the piece de resistance is their fish head steamboat (pictured in the silver boiler). This is a Singaporean favorite and the version at Whampoa Keng is very flavorful and slightly creamier than others I've tried. At the Rangoon Road branch, the atmosphere is lively and the staff are very friendly (although not much English is spoken). The menu features some photos and English captions so you'll get by with pointing and nodding. Go with a group so you can try more dishes.
