Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center

890 NE Ocean Blvd, Stuart, FL 34996, USA

The Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center is located on Hutchinson Island between the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. The 57 acre swamp offers nature trails, a 750,000 gallon Game Fish Lagoon, a children’s activity pavilion, a sting ray tank with feeding times ( you get to feed them). The Game Fish Lagoon has 35 species of fish with turtles, sharks, tarpon, and 18 large rays. There is also a childrens’ Summer camp. The camp is very educational and teaches children to respect the delicate environment of the Indian River Lagoon. There is a gift shop with many toys, books, games, jewelry, and photos related to marine life. I see children there trying to decide what to buy. It’s tough since they have such a variety from which to choose. The staff at the Center is friendly and very knowledgeable. I enjoy the nature trail and the Indian site with the huts. You can imagine the Native Americans living right there in the hardwood hammock. I visit more than once a year and always see and learn something new. I look forward to these visits. I’m outdoors with nature and sea life under a blue sky investigating nature. Nothing better. (I always bring my camera). The Center is a 2013 “Tourist Attraction” Reader’s Choice Winner (Martin County, Florida). For information about the Center visit:www.floridaocean.org/p/58/visit
