Twice a year, in January and June, the men’s fashion world descends upon Florence for Pitti Uomo—four-day trade fairs held in the city’s ancient Fortezza da Basso. As one of the first global presentations of the season’s newest trends, the event has become a place to strut one’s best, to say the very least. Pocket chains, handlebar moustaches, vested suits, and color—lots and lots of color—are the norm, with some gents taking it to the limit. Always interesting, often entertaining, and sometimes even understated, the “Pitti Peacocks,” as they have come to be known, pose, and preen as they wait for the international fashion photographers, journalists, and bloggers to document each day’s look. Even in a city like Florence, one that boasts year-round style, these two weeks each year take menswear to the max!
