Every Saturday an interesting mix of locals descends to haggle on the 'Flohschanze', a great flea- and antique market in the Schanzenviertel, not too far from the trendy Karolinenviertel.
People here take care to preserve the original market character by not allowing cheap, new, and mass-fabricated wares. You'll be instantly thrown into 'real' Hamburg, as there aren't many tourists present. Good people watching!
For sale are antiques, collectibles, records (you know, the vinyl kind!), and some weird things like taxidermied dear heads–good luck cramming one of those it into the overhead bin on your flight back.
And, for the caffeine addicts (including me!)–there's a small cafe there for your morning fix.
Opening times: Every Saturday from 8am-4pm. Very close to U-Bahn station: Feldstraße
