First Avenue & 7th St Entry
You can’t rightly visit Prince’s hometown and not see a show at First Avenue & the 7th St Entry—or at least stop by to pay your respects to The Artist’s gold star, the only one in a sea of silver on the venue’s facade. Formerly known as Sam’s, this iconic spot became First Avenue during Prince’s reign. It’s not only where he rose to fame and often played impromptu shows, but also where several scenes in Purple Rain take place. Today, it features two separate performance spaces—The Mainroom (with a 1,550-person capacity) and 7th St Entry (much smaller, with room for just 350)—which regularly host a wide variety of musical acts, from Taking Back Sunday to Foreign Air. Parking around here can be a drag, so take a bus or the light-rail and look forward to a legendary night.More Recommendations

Live Music At First Avenue
Bands of all caliber and genre come through the iconic First Avenue & 7th St Entry music venue. Most famous as the backdrop to Prince's Purple Rainperformances, the venue helped Prince get his start in the '80s. It was also home to the early punk and rock scenes, with acts like the Replacements, Frank Zappa, Iggy & The Stooges, The Kinks, and The Ramones performing on its stage. Make sure to catch a show while in town, or at least walk by their outdoor wall of stars to see the notable acts that have played here.

First Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota
One of the greatest venues of all time. Still haven't actually been to a show there, however.
