The spectacle of the night sky glowing with a rainbow of shifting veils of colors—the northern lights, or aurora borealis—qualifies, if anything does, as a must-see experience. While the science of the phenomenon may be better understood these days (it has to do with the collision of particles from the sun's atmosphere at the points where the earth's magnetic fields are weakest), the display still remains magical for awestruck observers. In order to even have a chance of seeing the lights—there is no guarantee that they will appear on any given night, and they definitely follow their own schedule—you may have to endure hours in sub-zero temperatures. Not with Explorations, however. On their trip to Finland, you'll spend the night in a glass igloo, with a clear view of the heavens above. When the lights begin their show, you'll already be gazing upwards.
Viewing the aurora borealis is only one highlight of Exploration’s Northern Lights of Finland trip. You’ll also have opportunities to go dog-sledding, visit an ice chapel, and experience the wildlife of the far north of Europe on a reindeer safari.
