Café Finca Cialitos

267 Calle San Francisco

Puerto Rico has a small but passionate coffee industry, and Finca Cialitos is one of the best spots to sample brews made from locally grown beans. For its coffee drinks, this hip café in the heart of Old San Juan uses 100 percent arabica beans grown on the Finca Cialitos farm and roasted in small batches so they’re always fresh. The café also serves sandwiches and pastries and sells bags of Finca Cialitos beans and ground coffee.

Great coffee from a family-run farm

The cappuccino was strong and exactly what I needed for the day ahead that would be filled with walking around blue tiled streets of hilly Old San Juan. The owner Joaquin Pastor Gonzalez chatted with me a bit about his farm in central Puerto Rico where his family has grown coffee beans for more than 60 years. Photos of the farm and the raw coffee beans hang on the wall of the coffee shop making you feel that much closer to the coffee in your cup. He moved out of the farm and into the city to sell his coffee firsthand to locals and tourists in Old San Juan. It was easy to see how much he loved what he did while he explained to me that he had to leave the farm to try and make money from the coffee shop. He said at first it was really hard to make a profit, but now business is starting to pick up. I can see why because it was the best cup of coffee I had on my trip to Puerto Rico.
