Fiesole

Via del Proconsolo, 16, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy

Just to the north of Florence, the small hill town of Fiesole was founded by the Etruscans. Today it is effectively an upmarket city suburb, home to many magnificent villas. Highlights include the 11th-century Duomo; the 3,000-seat Roman amphitheater, which still hosts concerts and ballet performances; and the Museo Archeologico, with finds from the Etruscan, Bronze and Greek eras. After your visit, relax in one of the pleasant cafés in Piazza Mino.
