Fête du pain
It is well known that the French take their bread very seriously. Dead seriously, if one was to ask a certain Marie Antoinette. The village of Fayence celebrates their ancient bread ovens on odd numbered years, firing up their beloved Saint-Clar oven and stepping back to the turn of the last century, carrying leavened loaves to the communal hearth. Yarn spinners bring out their wheels, artisans share their wares as farmers offer donkey rides and students participate in a dictée, which is the French version of a spelling bee. Celebrations include music, dancing and a communal dinner to end the evening.
