Fat Rice
It’s easy to span the globe at this Logan Square restaurant, where chefs Abraham Conlon and Adrienne Lo fuse together flavors from China, India, Southeast Asia, and Portugal in a menu meant for crowds. That said, do spring for the Arroz Gordo — a heaping clay pot complete with sofrito-laced jasmine rice, spicy prawns, plump clams, Portuguese chicken thighs, and char siu pork. When the wait for a table calls for cocktails (as it oftentimes does), saddle up at The Ladies’ Room, where the team spins out clever concoctions in a space inspired by the Chinese gambling halls of mid-19th and 20th-century Macau. Don’t miss the White Negroni, an on-the-rocks riff of housemade “malort,” Citadelle Gin, Atxa White Vermouth, wild pine lemon liqueur, and simple syrup.
