Fassbender & Rausch Chocolatiers at the Gendarmenmarkt. Quality and unique chocolate from handmade truffles to pralines. Even for those of you without a sweet tooth, well worth a visit as they have on display incredible chocolate creations of historical sites in Berlin. Try the dark chocolate with red peppercorns, it’s a non-traditional balance of flavors (Edel-Bitterschokolade mit rosa Pfeffer - is the name of this chocolate in German!)

Fassbender & Rausch Chocolatiers have got you covered! Literally, I think they could cover you in chocolate! Just crawl inside one of these larger than life works of chocolate art! Three stories of chocolate possibilities (they even have an elevator and a restaurant). The bins were heaped full of chocolate bars, molded bears and bumblebees, frog princes and automobiles. We had to chose between 30, 40, 50 on through 95 percent cocoa content. I like mine extra dark but my husband is a milk chocolate kind of guy. We were equally satisfied. My only regret? We couldn’t pack a chocolate monument in our carry-on. Sigh. It’s all my daughter asked for. “What would you like us to bring you from Germany?” “Chocolate mommy!” So we settled for an assortment of small chocolate pieces. I think she ate them within a month...
