Learn about the life of a lighthouse keeper at Fanad Head
Set on a rocky outcrop on one of Ireland’s most northerly peninsulas, overlooking the Irish Sea and Lough Swilly, Fanad Lighthouse is one of Ireland’s most photographed lighthouses. In 2016, it opened for day tours and overnight accommodation in the lighthouse keepers cottages. For a day tour, learn about the life of a lighthouse keeper at the visitor’s centre and then climb the lighthouse tower for spectacular views. You’ll get an insight into the lonely job of those who were stationed there to keep the navigational light in fully working order, in fair and foul weather, as a guide for passing ships.
