On my first morning in Melbourne--fresh off the plane--I was dropped off at Fairfield Park Boathouse by my host. She encouraged me to grab some scones, and spend the morning writing from the deck of "The Boathouse." Always up for a good scone / tea / writing combo, I wandered down to the boathouse and ordered some goodies and stole a spot overlooking the Yarra. Three hours, two scones, and a pot of tea later, the flight stress was gone--and I was more than ready to start my Melbourne exploration. It's a beautiful spot with a great, quiet atmosphere, and strong sense of community. The scones are stellar, and the natural beauty of the spot is hard to miss.
