Explore Its Historic Forts

Fort Charlotte offers an opportunity not only to explore the largest fortification in the islands, but it also has magnificent views of the capital, Kingstown, and even down to the Grenadines. The fort was completed in 1806, and the hill surrounding it was tapered down to make any approach difficult. It is impressive at any time of the day, but at dusk, the setting sun paints the sky with vibrant shades of orange, red, and yellow.

Another fort from the same period, Fort Duvernette (also known as Rock Fort) sits just 50 yards off Young Island Resort, a popular destination for sailors. The sugar-loaf shaped fort was built on a rock islet to protect the town of Calliaqua and its harbor. Admission to the fort with its two batteries and views of the sea can be arranged through the Young Island Resort.
