Braulio Carrillo National Park
Braulio Carrillo's an interesting national park, one that's easily accessible because of a highway that blazes right around it—yet it contains enough biodiversity to make you feel like you're in a place much more remote. There are more than 500 bird species here, from hummingbirds to the yellow-eared toucanet, and about 150 mammals, including anteaters, coatis and pacas. Hiking trails for people of all fitness levels weave through the park, often leading to cascading waterfalls and other photogenic spots.
