Traveling through Europe, the past is always present. I love staying in those Old World grand hotels that are so steeped in history, that you're traveling back in time the minute you step inside.
Esplanade Zagreb is just such a luxurious grande dame. The hotel was built in the 20s to provide a prestigious stop for the travelers of the Orient Express en-route Paris–Venice–Istanbul. A place to see and to be seen.
Today, the hotel still attracts elebrities, when they're traveling through Zagreb, adding to an already extensive list of famous names that include Josephine Baker, Charles Lindbergh, Orson Welles, Elizabeth Taylor, Maria Callas, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Joan Baez, Pablo Casals, Morgan Fairchild, Woody Allen, Catherine Deneuve.
You get the idea.
>>>Warm thanks to Alan Mandić from Secret Dalmatia, for organizing a truly memorable, and off the beaten path trip for our curious and insatiable group of travelers, and to Esplanade Zagreb Luxury Hotel for spoiling us with their perfect accommodations.
