Dine at the Tea House at Emerson Spice
There are few finer ways to spend the evening than under the intricately carved wooden lattices on the Emerson Spice hotel rooftop, cocktail in hand, watching the sun go down. This 19th century townhouse was once home to the last Swahili ruler of Zanzibar. Located in the Kasbah in central Stone Town, the hotel and restaurant are chic and stylish. Each evening, bar Thursdays when the restaurant is closed, the Tea House serves up an exotic five—course meal made from fresh local ingredients. Diners are encouraged to arrive at 6pm to enjoy the best of the sunset, and to hear the calls to prayer echoing from the city’s many mosques over the ramshackle rooftops all the way to the glistening ocean beyond.
