Learn How to Dance Quadrille at Emancipation Gardens, St. Thomas
The traditional dance of the Virgin Islands, Quadrille originated in France in the 1700s, eventually landing here after gaining popularity in England. Back then, the dance primarily served as entertainment on the sugar plantations. Today, it’s a colorfully expressive reminder of the past. One of the main groups helping to keep the tradition alive, the Mungo Niles Cultural Dancers, offers free instruction in Quadrille on Friday evenings at Emancipation Gardens in downtown Charlotte Amalie. There are few better ways to get in tune with the V.I.’s heritage and culture… plus the price is right too.
