A Boutique Hotel in the Historic Centre of Guimarães
This beautiful and ancient hotel, dating from the 19th century, is perfectly located in Guimarães centre, at Largo do Toural. It’s close to the Castle, to the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança and next to the historic centre, which is considered a UNESCO site. You just need to go straight ahead when you leave EMAJ and pass through the Village Gate, see the mark on the floor.
Ring the bell and someone, from the friendly staff, will open the door to enter this Boutique Hotel. The reception, with a counter full of safe boxes, is a reminder that a bank used to function here. The restoration that this historical building underwent, contemplated the details that can be found in the interior and also in the exterior.
The hotel is divided in two wings, a classical one and a modern one. In the classical wing, the rooms have view over the square and each one has a main colour. I stayed in the red room; I was amazed by the beautiful ceiling. Also in this wing, there is a Penthouse Suite. Regarding the modern wing, the minimalist style prevails.
The breakfast is served in the cafeteria and includes the typical regional cake, the Guimarães pies; a crispy pastry with a very good and high-caloric filling. Give it a try, it’s delicious.
