This resort is pretty chic day or night, and definitely worth a walk through, or a rum cocktail.
One morning, looking to explore the area beyond our resort in Isla Verde, we wandered down the street to the El San Juan Hotel for brunch. The brunch was decent for a reasonable price (I'm happy anywhere with cream cheese, lox, and capers) and the view was beautiful. The brunch is served at the restaurant in the back, where pools and palm trees make up this hotel's back yard, with the beach beyond.
The view of pools alone made me wish we stayed there. But learning that this is the current hot spot for San Juan, I might think it could get a little loud. The El San Juan Hotel has a somewhat retro vibe throughout its interior and exterior design. The lobby lounge area is stunning, with its hardwood paneling on walls and ceilings. It's a dark space, but it's definitely updated—with white furniture, crystal chandeliers, and black lights.
Another night we ventured to return and check out the nightlife...since it is supposed to be the "it" hotspot. Even on a Sunday in August, they still had a little crowd and great live music. I'd rate their piña coladas an A+.
