El Morro Castle

Havana, Cuba

Like many port cities in the Caribbean, Havana has an intact, centuries-old defense fort that is open to the public for sightseeing. Construction of the building, commonly called El Morro (its longer official name is Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos del Morro), began in the 16th century. Numerous modifications have been made over the years, but its essential character remains, and for many visitors, especially those who have an interest in colonial or military history, El Morro is a must-see during a trip to Havana.
