Julian and Maria Trevino first opened the doors to El Mirador in 1960 and quickly gained a loyal following eager for their fantastic breakfast, lunch and dinner options. These days you’ll still find dishes that set the menu apart from the myriad other Mexican spots in San Antonio. For breakfast, try a carne guisada breakfast taco— egg, chorizo, picadillo, machacado con huevo, carne guisada and chicharron in a freshly made flour corn tortilla—or chilaquiles. During brunch and lunch, sample the fresh tortas, menudo, tamales and flautas. The drinks, including margaritas and bloody Marys, and the desserts here are also wonderful.
