El Médano

Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain

On one of my discovery drives across Tenerife, I landed in El Médano, a bohemian, laid-back surfing town, that so far at least, seems to have escaped main stream tourism. It has a family friendly beach, right off the main square, and a relaxed vibe all around. I found great street cafés, a natural food store, an art school, low key clothes stores, and of course plenty of places catering to the surfers in town. Although the more recent addition of higher rise hotels have had a negative impact on the strong winds, surfing competitions are still held here, and fun to watch! It’s a place favored by locals, so be aware that parking can be a bit tricky, especially on the weekends. Panderia Migas – a great place for coffee and treats: Address: Calle Angel Guimerá, 1, 38612 El Médano Open daily: 8AM–9PM Phone: +34 922 69 20 89 Café M – ‘the’ place to hang (near the main square), have great food, and watch the world go by: Address: Paseo nuestra Senora Mercedes de Roja 14, El Medano Open daily: 8AM–9PM Phone: +34 699 00 26 73 >>>Thank you Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife for being my base camp for 3 days while I discovered beautiful Tenerife, and a special shout-out to the incredible team that works the Rock Royalty desk. Your suggestions on what to see on island were priceless!!
