El Médano: Kite Boarding and Surfing Capital of Tenerife
On one of my discovery drives across Tenerife, I landed in El Médano, a bohemian, laid-back surfing town, that so far at least, seems to have escaped main stream tourism. It has a family friendly beach, right off the main square, and a relaxed vibe all around. I found great street cafés, a natural food store, an art school, low key clothes stores, and of course plenty of places catering to the surfers in town.

Although the more recent addition of higher rise hotels have had a negative impact on the strong winds, surfing competitions are still held here, and fun to watch!

It's a place favored by locals, so be aware that parking can be a bit tricky, especially on the weekends.
