A Former Jewish Girls' School Gone Art
It took one year to transform the former Jewish girls' school in Mitte (Mädchenschule), a protected historical building, into a space for arts and food. Located in the middle of Auguststrasse, the building now hosts three galleries and three restaurants. Initiator Michael Fuchs shows contemporary art as well as modernist works; Gerd Harry Lybke of Eigen + Art has installed his Eigen + Art Lab presenting international artists; while Charlottenburg-based gallery Camera Work adds photographies into this space. For foodies, there are "Pauly Saal & Bar" on the ground floor by the owners of Grill Royal, "Kosher Classroom" produced by Michael Zehden, and Paul Mogg and Oscar Melzer offering fine food at their "Mogg & Melzer Delicatessen". Altogether a great addition to the "art route“ Auguststrasse.
