Explore the monolithic underground church of St Jean in Aubeterre sur Dronne
This astonishing building carved into solid rock in the 12th century, is the largest subterranean church in Europe. It is 27 meters tall, and it is said to have taken 100 years to complete. It includes a big nave with baptismal font, a vestibule, octagonal columns and big gallery. There is also a necropolis inside that contains around 80 sarcophagi. The visit is an extraordinary experience. Not to be missed if you are visiting the Dordogne.
