Dubrovnik's Rebellious Playwright
Marin Drzic's well-to-do Dubrovnik family wanted him to be a priest; however, his rebellious temperment led him to become Croatia's finest Renaissance playwright and prose writer. His comedies are considered to be among the best in European literature. "Dundo Maroje" is his most famous play. He lived from 1508-1567 and is honored with this statue in Old Town Dubrovnik.
