Stars In the Hills
Dripping Springs calls itself the Gateway to the Hill Country, and it offers all you could want from a Hill Country escape—cool creeks and hot barbeque, pioneer history and charming small inns. Another distinction it has is that it in 2014 it became the first city in Texas to be named a “Dark Sky Community” by the International Dark-Sky Association. The title acknowledges the many measures that Dripping Springs has taken to make sure the stars shine brightly, from installing street lights that direct illumination downwards to capping the total number of lumens per resident. The town’s leadership has encouraged other towns in the Hill Country to adopt measures to limit light pollution.
