It doesn’t take long to trade the concrete jungle of central Hong Kong for its lush peaks and sandy shores, notably by catching a bus or taxi ride to Shek O Country Park. This undulating 5.2-mile-long hike along Dragon’s Back ridge stretches vertically over D’Aguilar Peninsula and makes a convincing case for world’s most beautiful urban hike. The sightseeing platform on Shek O peak provides sweeping panoramas of coast and offshore islands in the South China Sea. Along the route, you may spy paragliders hurling themselves off the ridge. Cap things off at Ben’s Back Beach Bar in Shek O village—with your toes in the sand and a round of inexpensive cocktails at the table. You may even be inspired to refreshing dip in the water.
