Damaraland: a dreamy landscape in Namibia. We took to our thatched roof luxury huts at Doro Nawas as though we'd always belonged there. Set in a circle around the main lounge (which resembles something out of Star wars) and stargazing deck, the 18 or so accommodations are at once rustic, solitary, and luxurious. Upon coming back from their 4 course dinner, one will find hot water bottles heating the beds, and thoughtful little notes from the eco-lodge's staff. The range of sights nearby are plenty: the cave art at Twyfelfontein, the petrified forest, and desert adapted elephant safaris. The views are of the Etendeka Mountains to the North and the sandstone cliffs of Twyfelfontein to the South. We sat out on our spacious deck, staring back in time into the night sky for hours upon hours. I now know the meaning of a deafening silence.
