On our last day in Beijing, we went to a mutton hotpot restaurant in an Islamic restaurant named Dong Lai Sung for our farewell party. It's a Mongolian establishment, with more than 100 years of history.
The style of hotpot here is very different, using a copper pot heated by charcoal in the traditional Mongolian fashion. The meat is so thin and tender, and melts in your mouth.
Having hotpot in China is one of the best ways to experience Chinese social life. Friends and family gather together, sit around the steaming pot simply to catch up and spend some time together, or for a special celebration.
And, if you are going in the dead of winter, the hot pot is your savior from the cold!
